What a great time we had in Liberia for 2 1/2 weeks! This trip felt like PROGRESS was made in every direction. We are definitely in a shift towards development and empowerment!
I cannot believe we covered so many miles in only 18 days!! Wow! No wonder we all came home exhausted!! First off, I thank God for all the answers to prayer. Like always, we could see so many ” little” miracles all along the way! We started from Winnipeg, with a major overage in luggage!
We had a total of $ 650 plus in charges! Of course we asked the attendant if she could wave any of the charges, since we were Humanitarian Aide. She said no, she is not authorized to do that. Suddenly, another employee came along, and remarked, ” Unless we ask our manager” She kindly proceeded to do that, and came back with a charge of $ 225!! What a blessing!! Thank you Air Canada!!
And of course we were all majorly over on most of our 8 bags!
Already we could tell that FAVOR was going with us on this trip.
It was great bringing Medicines over for Dr. Chris Hena founder of ” Healthy Women Healthy Liberia” They visit 35 remote villages in Liberia with medicines and health care for the poor and vulnerable. These Humanitarian Medical Kits come from Health Partners International of Canada. We get a great value for the amount we donate for these kits and we carry in precious medicines, so needed there!!
Dr. Hena was delighted to find Nexium along with so many other drugs that are seldom found in Liberia. That very morning they had a patient with peptic ulcer disease and said if only they had a drug like Nexium. Then here it was!! I love when that happens!! They are always so grateful for the antibiotics we bring in.
Dr. Hena and her staff are always helping someone in need, this is why we go out of our way to bring in as many medical kits as we can. Her staff is so dedicated to serving the poor. On other trips we have gone out with them on their field practices. We have experienced the difference they make in rural communities.
We also gave out Primary Care Drugs to our 4 Children’s Homes and to our Single Parent Homes. These are non prescription drugs, like tylenol for children, Kaopectate, vitamens etc. All are home care medicines that are safe for our parents to administer. They are locked up and kept out of reach of the children.
Bernice runs a shop where she sells stationery and other office supplies. In this way she is able to help with the needs of her home.
While we were there, she took in a small 2 yr. old child that was left abandoned near her back door.
