Orphan Child Now Studies Criminal Law At University

January 20th, 2012

Provision Of Hope is RAISING LEADERS OF INTEGRITY in Liberia!

We first met DANIEL COLEMAN in 2003,  living in an orphan village, just at the end of Liberia’s 14 years of  civil war.  He was left an orphan after the passing of both his mother and father, and the unknown whereabouts of his three siblings.  To this day, he has not located his siblings. In September of 2005, he came to live with us at My Father’s House.  Our goal is always to provide for physical needs, education and discipleship training to raise young leaders to make a difference in Liberia.  Daniel has grown immensely and is a natural leader!

16 yrs. old                Today at 23, A Confident Leader              Bendu, is a student he tutors

Daniel  completed his high school studies at the Phillips Preparatory School in Monrovia.  He is now a second year student at the African Methodist Episcopal Zion University studying CRIMINAL LAW!            He plans to finish his degree in 2  1/2 more years.   We are trusting God to continue providing the funds.  Liberia needs leaders like Daniel Coleman who will stand up for Social Justice.   Daniel is honest, determined and dependable.  One we can trust to carry out assignments.  He is very reliable.

In addition to dedicating time to his studies, Daniel lives out his gift of compassion by helping others.       He is on the Provision of Hope Mercy Ministry Team, which is an outreach to the very poor and destitute.  Every other Saturday they host a Widow’s Program at the Discipleship Training Centre, where rice is distributed and an inspirational message is shared.  This outreach is such a blessing to the widows.

Daniel shares passionately from his heart                 In Bomi County after he located his Grandmother

Daniel also shares his knowledge and tutors children who need assistance.  He is the kind of man who everyone benefits from, and is always around to lend a hand. As a part of the leadership team at DTC he goes above and beyond, running errands, assisting the directors, purchasing food for the cooks and being available for any other needs.

Provision Of Hope is so proud of the man Daniel Coleman has become! In the midst of uncertainty he has risen above his limitations and absolutely thrived! He is a man of integrity and we are blessed to be a part of his life. We are excited to share his testimony thus far, and are excited to partner with you in walking alongside Daniel to help him successfully complete his education.

If you would like to help support Daniel, you could do so by filling out our DONATIONS PAGE and sending it with your cheque.  To donate by credit card phone 250-454-9456 and ask for Karen Barkman or donate on line at Wordsower International  www.wordsower.org   Be sure to designate your donation to Daniel Coleman’s studies.  Any questions email karen@provisionofhope.com

HOPE HOME has 17 children we are trying to put to school

August 28th, 2010

JIMMY and MERCY KOFFA and their 21 children

Pastor Jimmy and his wife Mercy are the parents of this Hope Home.  They have a house full of beautiful children.  You should hear them sing! They are happy children with wonderful parents.  Times are not always easy for them.  Jobs are so scarce and funds are always very low.  We are so grateful to  Jason Nightingale who has graciously been helping them with food each month.  We appreciate any help we can get to keep this home open.  Every landlord in Liberia asks for one year’s rent in advance.  Many months they are behind in their rent by months, and this landlord has allowed them to stay.  He has been very kind.  I am praying one day we can pay a whole year of rent in advance.  The cost is so low for this large a house.  They pay only 100 per month for rent.    This year we have 17 children to put to school.  Each child needs 100 dollars for registration, black shoes, a uniform, a book bag and copy books.  We are looking for people who would care to help.  15 dollars can buy a pair of black shoes.  10 dollars can buy a uniform.  7 dollars will buy a book bag.  5 dollars can buy copy books and pens.                                  Can you help us get these children to school?   Choose one.

Widow Florence needs help to put her children to school

August 23rd, 2010

WIDOW FLORENCE FAHNBULLEH is pleading with us every day, “PLEASE WILL YOU PUT MY CHILDREN TO SCHOOL!!”   I said we would try.

Since her husband’s death, Florence has been struggling even to feed her children.  On our last visit to Liberia, Sylvester Coleman, one of our college students,  took us to her room.  They had very little in their room, and no mattresses.  They needed blankets and pillows too.  Many times the children would get sick because of the cold floor.  Florence and her children live in the same house as Sylvester and John Barclay, who are both going to college because of sponsors in North America.   In Liberia many rent one room, and that is their home.  In this photo we have 3 children who would like to go to school, if only they had school fees.  Theresa K. Borlah is 10 yrs. old and in Gr. 5  Florence K. Fahnbulleh is 8 yrs. old and in Gr. 2.  George B. Fahnbulleh is 7 yrs. old and in Gr. 1.   They are hoping every day that there will be funds for them.  They keep asking.

To help one of these children to school, the cost is 75.00 for one semester.  Each school year has two semesters.   In Liberia it is compulsory to  have a pair of black shoes for school.  Cost for this age shoes is 15.00.  Cost of a uniform is 12.00 for smaller children.  Cost of a book bag is 10.00.  Copy books and pens for each child is 5.00.   The total per child for first semester is 117.00.  Second semester the price will be 75.00.    To provide for one child for the whole school year would be 192.00 USD.   The cost in Canadian Dollars would be 200.00 per child per year.  We do not have to pay for second semester until December.  Please could someone help Widow Florence to register her children to school?  She would be so happy!!   Any small donation would be most appreciated.   Many together, can meet this goal.

I will post the people who donate to this, at the bottom of this blog.   Check back to see the names of those who pledge or donate.  This way you can see when this need is filled.   Please phone or email your pledges to Karen Barkman 250-454-9456 or email Karen@provisionofhope.com    School Registration is taking place now.  Please inform us if you can give.

FLORENCE IS SUCH  A WONDERFUL MOTHER.  She  was so blessed to have a mattress to sleep on that she could not stop thanking Sylvester for bringing us to her place.  Sylvester  has put in an application for a micro loan to run a CHARCOAL BUSINESS.  Florence has already offered to sell for him while Sylvester attends college.  She said, I have nothing to do all day, I would like to do that for you for helping me to get a mattress.  Can you imagine sleeping on the floor?   In the photo she is holding a black bag of rice that she got at the Widow’s Rice Distribution that our boys run, on Saturdays at My Father’s House.  Provision of Hope with the help of Wordsower International distributes many bags of rice each Saturday to widows on our program.  See more at http://www.provisionofhope.com/widows.htm    We want to give Sylvester Coleman a micro loan of 500 USD.  He can then split the profits with Florence.  Sylvester can go to the bush to get the coal.   This will help them all to eat every day.  MICRO LOANS ARE HELPING THE PEOPLE OF LIBERIA TO MAKE A WAY FOR THEMSELVES.   Click here to see more   http://www.provisionofhope.com/blog/2009/05/micro-loans-help-in-rebuilding-liberia/
