“LIGHT TO THE NATIONS” HOPE HOME

October 26th, 2011

PROVISION OF HOPE is just finishing the last stage of the BUILDING PROJECT for Dapae and Rita and their 10 children.  This Hope Home houses 8 “Children at Risk” who came to live with Dapae and Rita after they resettled back to Liberia.  We first met them in the Buduburam Refugee Camp in Ghana.  Today they are house parents of many lovely children. THANK YOU TO ALL OUR CHILDREN’S SPONSORS!! YOU ARE MAKING A REMARKABLE DIFFERENCE IN THE LIFE OF A CHILD!

The children have all been helping with the building project in their own small capacity.

Rita Bobby is the youngest of the children and the most recent addition.  What a happy family!

FRANK & LINDA DOIRON,  from Kleefeld, MB, Canada were the people who  became the sponsors of Dapae and Rita.  We first met Dapae & Rita in the Buduburam Refugee Camp in January 2007.  Shortly there after  Frank and Linda came on board to help.  I distinctly remember the day Frank came to my house, looked at the numerous photos I had spread out on my table, and  said, ” I am drawn to help these ones”  Through Frank & Linda Doiron and their friends, Dapae and Rita were resettled home to Liberia.   They had a narrow escape during the last Liberian civil war in May 2003, when a rebel faction group went to war against the government troops.  Rockets were exploding everywhere, and people were running for their lives.  Many were killed, and families separated!  This is how they took along a young boy named Emmanuel, to be with them, while in Ghana.   He too was running for his life and got separated from his mother.  Today Emmanuel has found his mother and lives with her!

We are excited to report that we are at the final stages of construction for this 4 Bedroom Home.  We have the electrical ($1,000) and ceiling ($1,200) to finish.  After that we will proceed with the painting of the walls inside and out.  The interior is already looking really good.  When the construction is completed we will be ready to add furniture.   They need a big dining room table with chairs ($225), 3 children’s bunk beds ($200 each)  6 mattresses for the bunk beds ($50 each)  a double bed for Dapae and Rita ($200) kitchen cupboards ($225) a kitchen table ($50) cupboards for the children’s clothes ($150) and some bedding ($100)

If you would like to help Dapae and Rita and the Doirons  finish this project, you could do so by filling out our DONATIONS PAGE and sending it with your cheque.  To donate by credit card phone 250-454-9456 and ask for Karen Barkman.

Some people love to work on Christmas projects with their extended families.  This would be a great idea!

God bless you,

Karen Barkman

“Raise the Roof” … Fundraiser for Ma Esther’s Children

April 22nd, 2011

MA ESTHER’S HOPE HOME now has 16 beautiful children.  What a great time we had with them at the party!  They entertained us with drama and song.  We had party horns and candy, popcorn and drinks.  They absolutely loved the gifts, letters and photos that many of you sent.  It takes so little to warm the heart of a child!  So little!

In February Ma Esther took us to see the land we are purchasing to begin the building of a new house for her and these precious children.  Right now they are overcrowed in a very small 3 room house.  Everyone sleeps in a row on the floor.

Coming up on May 6th in Mitchell, Manitoba there is a Fundraiser Dinner called “Raise the Roof”   Gr. 3 teacher Elaine Peters, and other Provision of Hope supporters  are hoping to raise the funds needed for this project.  The building site is in a quiet community near a good school.   We are buying several lots so we can  grow crops and do some gardening to help sustain these children.  If you are interested to help with this project click here http://www.provisionofhope.com/donate.htm   We are seeing so much growth and development in these children.  Ma Esther you are a wonderful mother!  If you would like more info on this project or tickets for the fundraiser email karen@provisionofhope.com   Cost is 10.00    It will be a fun time!!

HOPE HOME has 17 children we are trying to put to school

August 28th, 2010

JIMMY and MERCY KOFFA and their 21 children

Pastor Jimmy and his wife Mercy are the parents of this Hope Home.  They have a house full of beautiful children.  You should hear them sing! They are happy children with wonderful parents.  Times are not always easy for them.  Jobs are so scarce and funds are always very low.  We are so grateful to  Jason Nightingale who has graciously been helping them with food each month.  We appreciate any help we can get to keep this home open.  Every landlord in Liberia asks for one year’s rent in advance.  Many months they are behind in their rent by months, and this landlord has allowed them to stay.  He has been very kind.  I am praying one day we can pay a whole year of rent in advance.  The cost is so low for this large a house.  They pay only 100 per month for rent.    This year we have 17 children to put to school.  Each child needs 100 dollars for registration, black shoes, a uniform, a book bag and copy books.  We are looking for people who would care to help.  15 dollars can buy a pair of black shoes.  10 dollars can buy a uniform.  7 dollars will buy a book bag.  5 dollars can buy copy books and pens.                                  Can you help us get these children to school?   Choose one.

We are also looking for people who would donate towards a MICRO LOAN  for this household.  If Mercy, the mother of the house could get a small loan she could start a  business with the older girls.  They could sell items of clothing, or dry goods to generate some income.   Jimmy has carpentry skills and is always doing odd jobs here and there to help with their needs.         Email Karen Barkman  karen@provisionofhope.com if you would like to make a donation for a micro loan.

Ma Esther’s Hope Home

May 18th, 2010

Ma Esther’s Hope Home has now grown to 16 orphan children. We are noticing that this home is really too small.  They only have one big bedroom, and one smaller room hardly big enough to be called a bedroom.  We are hoping to raise the money to rent a bigger home this coming August so they will be able to move before the coming school year.

Ma Esther herself was an orphan girl, and has a big heart to help every child in need.  Every time we come to Liberia, she has taken in another one.  Several of her children do not have sponsors.   Our director Aaron Paul just gave me a list of needs for this home.  They desperately need mosquito nets, mattresses, blankets, shoes and clothes.

You can hear them sing if you click here  http://www.provisionofhope.com/blog/?p=146 and scroll down to our video!!!!!!

If anyone would like to sponsor one of her children, or donate towards these urgent needs, please contact us either by emailing karen@provisionofhope.com or phoning our office at 250-454-9456  The children here are in their best clothes, this photo was taken right after church.  If we could buy another bundle of used clothes that would be wonderful.  A bundle of used clothing is 200 USD  Mattresses are 55.00 for good used double sized.  Blankets are 10.00, shoes 10.00 per pair, towels 1.00 each, pillows 2.50 each, bath buckets 2.50 etc.
