Liberia Trip…awesome!

March 21st, 2011

“WHAT AN INCREDIBLE TRIP … best ever!”  Wait a minute, I said that last year.   It’s so rewarding to see the progress from  one year to the next.  There is always so much growth and development.  Thank you to all who sponsor our orphan children and thank you to our LEADERS IN LIBERIA who are faithfully doing the work.  It takes TEAM effort!  ”T”ogether “E”ach “A”ccomplishes “M”ore!!

SAMUEL MWANGI with Edward & Jackson              KRIS RILEY and ELAINE CAUDLE with our boys

Everyone is asking if you will be back?   Of course you will be back!  In God’s timing.  Each one of you made an eternal difference in the hearts of our people!!  With your love and your kindness you touched so many lives.  Samuel I knew you would impact Liberia and leave a deposit of God’s heart that could radically transform a nation!!  We look forward to sending some of our boys out to Destiny Bible School in Kenya next year and we look forward to bringing you back!

KRIS is reading her book “The Story of Henrietta Caterpillar” to the girls at “The Bridge of Hope Girl’s School”   Every where Kris went she had an audience for her story.  It’s an incredible children’s story inspiring children “ to develop the love, gifts and talents that God has given each of them.”  Kris brought a suitcase of her books to hand out to the children in Liberia and the Refugee Camp in Ghana.   To order a copy visit  her website http://www.byheavensdesign.ca/

WE HAVE 4 WIDOW DISTRIBUTION CENTERS WHERE 135 WIDOWS COME TO GET THEIR RICE

ELAINE has offered to work with Pastor Paul in expanding our work with the widows.  This month we  started to add salt, oil, and soap to their portions!  You cannot come and watch our widows worship & pray and not be moved.  Ask Elaine and Kris how it was for them.  I am smiling as I type here,  knowing how undone they both  were that first Saturday.  Yes, they both cried!    These are the ones who have suffered so much through the wars.   They are women strong in faith and courage.   “Pastor Paul, thank you for starting this tremendous work, in honor of your late mother.”

We spent a week in Ghana at the BUDUBURAM REFUGEE CAMP  visiting our friends there.

We now have  72 Single mothers that are part of our Single Mothers Empowerment Program on the camp.  As funds come in we empower more with small micro loans.  They said the small business loans were really helping them!   We start them off with 200 – 300 dollars.

SINGLE MOTHERS BUSINESSES ARE STILL GOING STRONG.  THIS IS HELPING THEM TO MAKE IT!

Princess Bolee is running a successful dry goods store.   Leona, Dorcas & Lovetta run a small restaurant.

We just empowered two more single mothers this month.  We still have a  long list of those who are waiting.  Every day they are asking when their turn will come.  Our answer is always the same… “we hope very soon”  If anyone would like to help single mothers feed and clothe their children, this is a great way to help.  Some have even managed to put their children to school.  That’s remarkable on a refugee camp where rice is priced ridiculously high and they all pay for their water  to bathe.

Single Mothers Empowerment Program, Trip Updates

Off to Liberia

January 25th, 2011

TOMORROW JANUARY 26TH WE ARE LEAVING FOR LIBERIA!  I AM GETTING SO EXCITED NOW THAT IT IS HARD TO SLEEP. I HAVE A DEEP LOVE FOR THE PEOPLE OF THIS NATION.

I am looking forward to our 7th trip into Liberia and to the Buduburam Refugee Camp in Ghana.

Liberia I am so glad you are at peace! It’s been a delight to work in this field for the passed seven years.  If I have anything to say, it is that  “my boast is in the Lord, the maker of heaven and earth”  God alone is the Faithful One ! “Faithful is He who calls you, who also will do it”

I have watched God go before us over and over.  We have seen miracle after miracle!

None of this would be happening if it wasn’t for the hundreds of people who care for the poor and the needy.  So many people have given of their time, their talents, their resources, and their prayers!  All I can say is may God abundantly bless you in return for your kindness to the least of these.  All Glory goes to Our Father, the one who first loved us…oh, how I love you Jesus and I love how you love the poor!

Samuel Mwangi is coming from Kenya.  He is the founder of  Destiny Bible College in Kenya and oversees many other Bible colleges in various nations of Africa.  Samuel is affiliated with Bethel Ministries in Redding, CA  He comes embracing the heart of the Father and spends his life raising up sons and daughters wherever he goes.  His passion for God is infectious as he walks a kingdom lifestyle.

“The blind are seeing the deaf are hearing”

“There is nothing impossible with God!”

“God is in a good mood, hahahahaha!!”

I have not met this man face to face, but in my spirit I feel like I know him well.

Samuel will be our main speaker at our conference LET YOUR KINGDOM COME.  He will meet with our leadership  to lay the foundation for a SCHOOL OF THE SUPERNATURAL.

Kristine Riley lives in the Okanagan Valley of British Columbia, Canada.  She worked in office administration for 30 years, mostly in the real estate industry.  Kristine is the author of a newly published book called “The Story of Henrietta Caterpillar.”  She is bringing many copies with her for the children of Liberia and Ghana.

“It is an expression of the beauty and uniqueness of each individual life and an inspiration to all children to develop the love, gifts and talents that God has given to each of them.”

Kristine goes into Elementary Schools to share her story and the kids all love it!

For more information about ordering her book  go to www.byheavensdesign.ca

Kristine knew she would one day be going to Africa.  God told her to start a travel fund, for that purpose.  She met Karen Barkman early this past November and just knew this was the right time!

Elaine Caudle is an RN who joins us from Texas.

She has been involved in Liberia since her first visit in 2004.  Elaine served on the Mercy Ship in in Liberia and has sponsored many students to school, including Momo Bai and Marcus Jamel who both graduated with degrees from Cuttington University this past June.

Elaine has been a real support and inspiration in this work.  The Liberian people love her!

She is a Bible Teacher in her community, and will be one of our speakers at the conference we are having in the Buduburam Refugee Camp in Ghana.  Elaine comes with a strong faith and a positive outlook.  What a blessing to have her join us this year! “Mom Elaine your boys cannot wait to see you!”

WOW! WHAT A TRIP!!

Thank you for all of you who prayed for us!! It was obvious that God was going before us and that your prayers were the energy behind our work and all that was accomplished in 3 short weeks.   We experienced so many blessings!!  Everywhere we went we were able to TOUCH LIVES AND BRING HOPE.  We prayed for hundreds of people and saw lives changed before our eyes.  Miracles happen for those who believe and expect them.  Both the Youth Conference and the Women’s Conference were powerful!  Again we helped a lot who were sick as well as those who needed food.  That’s just what we do when we go to Africa.

We had a wonderful morning service at the African Bible Church, on the Buduburam Refugee Camp in Ghana.  What a wonderful service!  Their theme for this year is  DIVINE RESTORATION.  Through out our time on this trip to Liberia and Ghana we witnessed God restoring lives.  This was the highlight of our trip… divine restoration!!!   “He restores my soul”  I am happy to report that Aaron Paul is back with Provision of Hope.

Here are the widows who will receive their bags of rice after a time of fellowship and prayer.  After handing out the rice bags we visited several of the widows’ homes.  We saw those who had no mattresses, and only a few blankets so we provided what we could.  With your help we can provide more in the months ahead.

SUMO AND DECONTEE GIBSON FIND THEIR MOTHER after being separated for 20 years.  What a happy day!  They did not know for sure if their mother had survived the wars.

Sumo & Decontee reunited with their mother (click to enlarge)

Last year we gave Sumo money to search for his mother, but he came back with no news of her.  This year, as soon as we arrived, he told us a woman had located his mother!!  We gave him money to travel to her county to meet her. What a reunion!!  Sumo brought his mother to his sister, Decontee’s place, where we could all spend time together.    We have several of our orphaned students, who are  wanting to go in search of their missing mothers.  During the wars many were scattered and have lost track of each other. Some already know their mothers are alive, and where to find them.  All they need is funds to get there. As funding is provided more of our students will be allowed to search for their families.

We were able to bless Sumo and Decontee’s mother with $200 USD to boost her farming business which is how she makes her meeger living.  Mamie was so grateful for the help we have given to her children.  Provision of Hope is most concerned that families are brought together so we put great effort into locating family members. Sumo Gibson will be graduating from Cuttington University with a degree in pharmacy. Decontee has been in our program for the last four years and is now in grade 11.

PRAYING FOR DEBORAH WILLIAM’S DAUGHTER at the Golden Gate Hotel close to the Buduburam Refugee Camp.  Deborah is one of our Single Mothers on the Empowerment Program.  Her daughter had an operation to remove one kidney because of cancer.  We are praying for her complete healing and that her one kidney will be sufficient.  Other single mothers are needing various surgeries as well. As funds become available we will schedule these.

Single Mothers Empowerment Program

Single Mothers Empowerment Program

THE SINGLE MOTHERS EMPOWERMENT PROGRAM on the Refugee Camp has grown to 47 women already. WOW! These are women who are devoted to prayer, and are called the Provision of Hope Intercessory Women.  They meet every Saturday for prayer.  We had a powerful time of prayer with them on Saturday morning, as well as at the women’s conference.

We are at number 13, on our way to empowering 47  single mothers.  These mothers decide what trade or business they wish to pursue.  We have women who are in cake decorating, beauty schools, tailoring, nursing, pharmacy and small businesses.  This is how they are providing for their children. With as little as $200 – $300 we can set them up in small businesses.  This empowers them to provide for their own needs.

HOPE HOMES keep growing and continue to provide for orphan children’s needs.  This is Ma Esther’s Hope Home.  The children here are happy and well cared for.  We had several wonderful meals with Ma Esther and the children.

You should hear them sing.. WOW!!  We now have a total of eight Hope Homes that we assist.  Ma Esther and her children sang and danced for us!

Discipleship Training Center (click to enlarge)

The DISCIPLESHIP TRAINING CENTER is going ahead with both Pastor Malcolm Harris and Pastor Aaron Paul leading these young men.  The National Youth Conference with Pastor Jackson Weah, Pastor Keita, YWAM Director Jamil Kromah and several other pastors and churches,  was a tremendous time of empowering the Joshua Generation and equipping them to rise up and conquer the land. We are raising up a group of Champions that will impact Liberia, changing the atmosphere wherever they go.  We now have 66 youth on our program.  We have put over 100 to school this year.  Our primary goal is to raise up disciples and teach them to follow Jesus Christ.  To go and “Do Likewise” as in the Good Samaritan story.

WE ALSO MET WITH THE MINISTER OF EDUCATION, DR. JOSEPH KORTO to discuss which areas of education were most promising for future jobs and how to direct our highschool graduates.  This was a very informative meeting.  We were given contacts to further advise us in the field of Education.

Home from Liberia with a passion to do more

February 2nd, 2009

Dear Friends,

How can we put into words what we have experienced on this trip?

I know that each one of us on the team has a larger capacity to love the poor and the destitute.  Today I am sitting here wondering where to begin.  Do I first buy rice for those who are hungry on the Buduburam Refugee Camp?  I can see their desperate faces as they plead for their children.  Many are single mothers or widows. They want to go back home to Liberia but have no means, they are not registered with UNHCR.  Who will help them? Others are sick needing surgeries.  They suffer with no-one to help.  I could walk away easier, if I did not know them by name.  One by one we will help them, somehow!

In Liberia we just rented two more houses, for orphaned children and youth.  We are trusting God to bring in the finances to buy mattresses and mosquito nets.  These children will all need sponsors for basic care and school.  We are trusting God to supply their needs.

Photo of my precious little girl “Lemu”  We have the same African name.  ”Lemu”  means, “Of the same heart”

Tim Moores came with a father’s heart for everyone.  Everywhere he went he would be sharing the love of Jesus…in the street, in the market, in the church in our homes…always pointing everyone to Christ.  Tim came to serve and that’s just what he did.  From filming to making breakfast for the team, he was always up to something good.  Tim, you’ll be back!  In this photo you see Tim with Lasana Joseph.  Lasana was so encouraged as Tim shared his personal experiences of healing and overcoming fear.  We could see the breakthrough in Lasana.  What a morning when Tim met his refugee family at the Buduburam Camp.  The whole church was stirred.  Mercy came forward and cried in his arms, she was so grateful to meet her dad, the person who helped her for the past 4 yrs.  I found myself praying, “Father send a thousand more Tim Moores to this land where so many are fatherless”

Carol Jones left part of her heart in Liberia, with her Liberian son Arthur Gaye.  What a thrill to watch them get so close, person to person.  His brother Thomas was moved into My Father’s House during this time as well.  Carol’s mission was to visit all the colleges and universities in Monrovia, gathering the necessary information on all the courses each school offers.  Carol became a guidance counsellor to our students informing them and answering their many questions.  Everyone gleaned from her research and intelligence.  Carol would spend hours listening to our students share their hearts and goals for the future.

Karen Aerssen you were a blessing wherever you went.  The children loved you and so did the youth.  Karen is a gifted business woman with great financial insight and spent hours teaching business management skills to our college and university students.  This was a real inspiration to those who plan to take up apprenticeships at various businesses in Monrovia after graduation.  Karen has also invested in our micro loans and was able to meet some of the enterpreneurs she has assisted in setting up small businesses.  Already the people are asking when she will return.  Her time with us was short but she left a very powerful influence with our business students.  They are hoping to get DVD’s of her seminars to continue learning what it takes to build a successful business.  Karen taught Godly business principles and how to run a business with integrity and a kingdom mindset.  Thank you Karen!

He pours in .. we pour out

January 24th, 2009

Hi friends,

We are about to leave Liberia in a few hours.  What a trip!!!  So many times we just stood back and watched Jesus as he touched lives.  Over and over.  All ages.  Last night was our final night with the boys at My Father’s House.  wow!!  The Holy Spirit consumed that house.  His presence was thick.  We were all in awe.

We left with about 30 boys praying over us as we knelt before Him.  Truely we have witnessed heaven invading earth. We will never be the same.

He poured in … we poured out….touching the sick, the broken, and the very poor.

I am out to rent another house this morning.  That means we rented two more this trip.

We are now believing God for the provision to fill the house with the needed items.  I have the confidence He will.. He is the faithful one.. if we step out to obey His voice.

We leave for Ghana in a few hours.  Though we have gone non-stop, early mornings, late, late nights.. we are leaving not at all tired, but very refreshed.  We will spend 3 days at the Buduburam refugee camp.

Thank you for your continued prayers,

Love to all!

Karen and the team

Touching so many lives

January 17th, 2009

Hi Friends,

This trip is going so fast.  This morning we started early, with the widow rice distribution.  Our hearts were so touched. It was a blessing to see our boys take full responsibility.  From there we went to the Seyon Hope Home to take photos, gather information and do updates.  They have 4 new children.  19 people live in this house.  I am glad it is big.   After that we met with the countless numbers lined up to give their thanks and appreciation, or come with a request for help.

Karen Aerssen did a most amazing job of teaching Business Courses to our college and university students.  They could not get enough.

Carol Jones and myself have visited many of the schools in Monrovia.  We are getting all the information so our graduates can make the best choices after highschool.  Carol has such a compassionate heart!

Tim Moores is outstanding.  Tonight he is spending the night over with the boys.  He is born for this!  I know he’ll be back.  They just love him.  Last night Tim  had a computer school at our Guest House.  We came with 4 lap tops, and a printer, so he was showing many of the boys how to work them, doing excel spreadsheets etc.  They were thrilled.

Many, many, many needy people….

So many broken lives……

God give us wisdom, as we journey on…..and thank you for the marvellous opportunity, to walk with you among the poor…it is so obvious that you are here with them.

Thank you for your prayers,

Karen, and the team in Liberia

First Stop Accra

January 10th, 2009

We made it to Accra and were held up for over an hour with issues obtaining transit visas into Ghana as we are only staying overnight before going on to Monrovia. One piece of luggage was missing which we are trusting will be at the airport when we leave for Liberia in a few hours.

God is gloriously going before us!  It was a thrill to watch Tim Moores meeting his refugee son Jallah.  Our boys were at the airport to meet us, and were so excited to spend a couple of hours with us.

Thanks for all your prayers! We need them as we have 2 months worth of work to pack into only 3 weeks.

I am so excited to get to Liberia!!!  I feel like I’ve come home.

Bless you all!

Liberia Trip 2009

December 4th, 2008
Kpaytuo Village Children

Kpaytuo Village Children

I am looking forward to another trip to Liberia leaving Canada January 8th.  This year I am blessed to have several very talented people joining me.

My heart is stirred once again to be a voice for the poor in Liberia, West Africa. These are the  people I have given my life to since first seeing the poverty in 2003.  Please pray as we go back this coming January.  This year Tim Moores of Edmonton, Karen Aerssen, of Chatham, & Carol Jones of Kelowna are coming with me!  Without a doubt God has hand picked this team and we look forward to seeing what the Lord has planned for all of us.

I leave thinking I will change Africa, but I am always amazed at how the Lord instead CHANGES ME!

I am delighted to have Tim Moores from Edmonton join us going over to Liberia this January.  He is very inventive, with a creative mind and ability to see opportunities and build on them.  I believe he will have some workable ideas for our college students as we begin to transition them towards independent living.  Provison of Hope has invited him to have discipleship training sessions with our students and leaders.     Tim has a passionate heart for the kingdom of God and walks in true sonship with the Father.  We were introduced by internet through some of the Liberian people Tim has been working with at the Buduburam camp. My heart has really been touched by how he has come to serve and volunteer his time to set up this website.  God bless you Tim!

Karen Aerssen and I met at an ETHM&S Conference in Winnipeg.  It was there that she expressed her desire to work with micro loans in developing nations.  Already she has invested in several small businesses in Liberia.  I look forward to introducing her to some of these people who have benefited through these micro loans.  This is working to help families support themselves.  Liberia needs people like Karen who are willing to come and invest in business.   Karen recognizes that The Master has an assignment for each of us and she is seeking to live out that assignment with a servants heart. One of the ways she is doing that is through involvement in short term missions.

Carol Jones joins us from Kelowna, BC.  Glynn and Carol have been long time sponsors of Arthur Gaye one of our Grade 12 Students who lives at My Father’s House.  Can you imagine the joy that overwhelmed Arthur when she phoned him on his birthday, November 15th, to say ” I am coming to see you, with Mom Karen”  Carol and Glynn have helped in many of our projects in Liberia and especially in the up keep at My Father’s House.  Carol comes with a heart of compassion for the underprivileged.  She will do computer training with our older students, and assist me with updating profiles on all our children and youth.

WE NEED YOUR PRAYERS SO WE CAN GET ALOT ACCOMPLISHED IN A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME.
