This month we want to high light Ma Esther’s Home and introduce you to our new house parents John and Korpu Kucuyoiyoigee.
John and Korpu and their 3 children moved into Ma Esther’s Home in early May as our new house parents. We are delighted at how well this transition worked out and how the children were so quick to adjust. Provision of Hope had asked Emmanuel and Angela Davis for their help in recommending a couple. Since they moved to Liberia, they were very involved in this home. Emmanuel is Ma Esther’s son. As most of you know, Ma Esther had a stroke in September of 2019. Her daughter Agnes moved into the house to take care of her mother and to help with the children. The day came when Agnes preferred to live in her own home, and Ma Esther felt good about moving in with her. Provision of Hope renovated a room for her in Agnes’ house. We had welcomed her to stay in the house Provision of Hope built for her and her children but with the new house parents coming in, she was more comfortable moving in with her daughter. We are so glad she lives a short walk from the house, so that she can come to visit any time and the children can also go to see her.
John and Korpu with the whole big family.
John and Korpu have 4 children, Joseph, Henry, Solomon and Melissa. Joseph is older and stayed at the place they moved from.
John is a master gardener. He runs his own NGO called Agriculture Conduit for Transformation. This is a means to provide sustainability to those in rural areas through organic gardening. He is passionate to be training the children how to garden.
Nancy Hoff attends a baking school and has been training the children how to bake all kinds of pastries and breads. They are getting ready to sell to the community now!
Samuel has a passion to play soccer. He has become the coach of 30 boys in the community. He named this team “God’s Power Football” Samuel is young but so responsible!
John visits our organic farm every week. His input and help is highly appreciated.
John and Korpu have a passion to reach out to children in need. They both have their own personal stories of hardships they faced as children. Their stories really touch your heart. John has a degree in Education and Korpu is a beautiful loving mother. Together they make an incredible team.
Shortly after John and Korpu moved in we put in a new well at Ma Esther’s. The children show their happy faces pumping an abundance of water!
They have been eating vegetables from the garden like potato greens, cassava, and beans. They just planted peppers. They have had a surplus to sell to the community. It’s so good to see that the children are active in helping and they love it! John is really good at motivating the children to be purposeful and help with home chores.
Baking and cooking are life skills that the children will all benefit from. They have so much fun when Nancy comes to the house. The biggest reward is tasting what they baked.
Henry is John and Korpu’s son. He leads a group of 10 youth. He calls this group YOUTH THINK POSITIVE. Henry teaches them how to be young men of integrity and how to become Godly leaders.
John suggested we try planting rice in the wetland to see how it would do. It is off to a very healthy start! He brought the boys from the home to the farm to help plant the rice. They all worked very hard! Our farm is not too far from Ma Esther’s Home making it possible for the boys to help. This year we had a shortage of rice again which drove the prices up. We are hoping and praying for a good harvest.
John was telling me on the phone how he’s been inspiring the children to have a vision of what they want to be when they grow up.
