Empowering Widows with Seeds and Tools

Provision of Hope continually seeks ways to empower our people to achieve sustainability and boost their income. With this goal in mind, Daniel Coleman recently visited several of our widows who earn their livelihood through gardening, which serves as their primary source of income. He was impressed by their ambition and progress, utilizing the resources available to them. Despite working on squatter’s land, they remain undisturbed and are working hard. After conducting his assessment, Daniel reported that they required more tools and seeds. He noted the need for new watering cans and wheelbarrows to replace their old ones. We’re committed to empowering individuals like them. Their potential to excel in gardening is evident, and we’re eager to support them in their gardening and produce even more!

While there are many more widows in need of these supplies, we made a decision to start with six.

  1. Martha S. Toe
  2. Korto Wamah
  3. Ma Hawa Boakai
  4. Korto Jusu
  5. Ma Bendu Kollie
  6. Jartu Kamara

As we have funds we will continue to bring this same package to others. Each of the six widows received a wheelbarrow priced at $45, a watering can at $10, a cutlass for $4, a shovel at $10, a rake for $8, a hook for $8, and protective gloves for $4, totaling $89 for their tools plus $ 10 for seeds. So, for less than $100 each, they can receive a garden package that could significantly enhance their gardening operations. Can you imagine receiving a wheelbarrow? Some of these widows only have a kitchen knife to garden with.

Each widow received a cup of corn, okra, and palava seeds. This boosts their income and enriches their diets with essential nutrition. We’re introducing “Growing Health” to encourage them to cultivate crops like kale, cucumbers, and moringa, to further enhance the nutritional value of their diets.

This is the time to be planting.  The rainy season has just begun.

This helped bring hope and enthusiasm to these six widows. Often we hear “God has not forgotten me” or “ Praise God for helping me”!

The next three widows we will empower  are Ma Mai, Ma Oyku and Ma Yamah.  Ma Oyku has only a kitchen knife for gardening.

If you would like to donate $ 100 for a garden package it would be a huge help to these widows. This is how they sustain themselves.
