Liberian Family Faces an Urgent Crisis

Pastor Malcolm Harris brought a desperate need to my attention today. The Kollie family has been forced to leave their home, which was built on their own land. Someone has claimed the property as their own and has taken possession of their home. Sadly, this type of situation is all too common in Liberia. The case is now in court, and we will be looking into its progress.

In the meantime, there was a kind person who said they could live in their unfinished home,
rent free. See the photo.

I’m sure you are reading my thoughts. No doors, no windows, and no concrete on the floors, and God only knows that come rainy season the roof will leak. If we were to fix up this home, there’s a possibility the landlord could come in later and start charging them rent.

Instead of helping them repair a home they don’t own, I’m suggesting they search for an affordable 2-room apartment. We can find decent small apartments for $650 – $700 US for the whole year. This is what we are feeling led to do for them.

Mr. Kollie is both a bus driver and a mechanic. He has been driving buses but has not been getting paid. This is a major issue in Liberia! This is the same with government schools and hospitals where they can work for months without getting paid.

Theresa, the mother of this home, has also opened up their home to a single mother and her child, and they are living with them as well. The single mother is holding her baby in the photo.

Theresa (in the red dress) is a deeply compassionate woman. She is a strong Christian and goes out into the community sharing the Gospel with others. Pastor Malcolm mentioned that she needs Bibles, which we will provide for her. She also goes into the prison along with Kula, Pastor Malcom’s wife, where they both serve as vibrant evangelists!

Both of their children, Amos and Patience attend, the Kingdom Care Academy School of Excellence. This is a new school in Liberia, built to support children from poor families. They offer very low tuition fees. In September, we assisted in paying Amos’s school fees, along with six other students
who all attend this Christian School.

Mother Theresa was overjoyed when she heard that we are willing to pay for one year’s rent for them. We just shared the news with them today. If anyone would like to donate to this cause, we would be incredibly grateful!

Please pray for this family. They are going through a very hard time.
