We were greeted with huge smiles and a beautiful welcoming song as we pulled into the Temas Orphanage. The space was filled with their beautiful voices singing, “I still have joy. After all the things I’ve been through, I still have joy.”
This time we came with blankets and mosquito nets for everyone. Thank you to our faithful donors who gave to bring all these supplies.

It was so good to meet Doris C. Weefar, the founder of the Temas Orphanage. She grew up in a similar situation at Fasama Mission. It was always her vision to start a ministry for abandoned children, the very work she is now doing. As you can see, she is getting older and has some physical limitations. However, she has a dedicated staff of volunteers who are continuing her vision and caring well for the children. We saw happy, lively children with positive attitudes.
We conducted a thorough assessment before deciding to come alongside and help. Temas Orphanage and its school are both registered with the Liberian government. It is a faith-based organization, and the staff are strong believers.
We met Pastor John G. Jekeh, who holds church services on campus with the children each Sunday. We also met James Weefar, one of the managers. Bishop Samuel Mwangi spent time in prayer with both of them.
Kumbha Sammy and Cecelia Coleman serve as the matrons for the girls. They have compassionate hearts and show genuine care for the children.

We saw many needs at Temas Orphanage while visiting and having a tour of the grounds.
- Their dormitory has very poor ventilation. We see the need to install 4 fans and do the electrical work needed to operate them.
- The small windows on the girl’s side of the building need to be enlarged. They need proper window bars on the windows and secure iron doors.
- Their well goes dry in March. Living Water International installed a well that needs repair. We will contact them to see if they are able to fix it.
- Mary Meals comes in with rice for their school but they are often low on food over the weekends.
- Our Organic Agriculture Trainers did a workshop at this school. We were happy to see that they had a nice crop of cucumbers growing. They could use help with an irrigation system during the dry season. They will need more seeds for their next harvest.
- Some of their bunk beds need repair.
