Sunday Dunbar has a remarkable story! From the depths of poverty in Gbarnga, Bong County, Liberia, this determined young man has risen above tremendous challenges to earn his degree as a Physician Assistant (PA). Today, he is putting his education into practice at the Salala Clinic, working alongside the Bong County Health Team through Liberia’s Ministry of Health.
Sunday is currently volunteering, hoping to secure a paid position. In the meantime, he is loving his work, gaining valuable hands-on experience, and making a difference in the lives of those who need medical care.

An Education Made Possible Through Generosity
Behind Sunday’s achievement is an extraordinary Canadian family whose generosity has helped make his dreams a reality. The family, who have a close relationship with the Dunbar family, went to meet them in 2016. What began as a desire to help has grown into years of faithful support, funding the education of the Dunbar children.
The Dunbar family was living in extreme poverty and simply could not afford to send their children to school. Through this Canadian family’s incredible generosity, Sunday and his sister were able to graduate from high school, and the support continued as Sunday pursued the much more costly education required to become a Physician Assistant. This is an opportunity that very few families in Liberia could afford. The sponsoring family has requested that we not mention their names.

This family has gone above and beyond, investing not only in Sunday’s education but in the future of an entire family. As the saying goes, “It takes a village to raise a child.” This family has certainly been part of that village!
Sunday expresses his heartfelt gratitude:
“I want to appreciate them for the level of contribution to my education and the life of my family and also the Provision of Hope Family.”
His appreciation speaks volumes about the young man he has become.
A Heart for Family and Community
Sunday has never forgotten where he came from. He takes great responsibility in caring for his siblings and family. Just this past week, he traveled home to help his father get to the hospital for a tooth extraction. Early the following morning, he was on the road again, traveling to Totota to conduct a two-day Measles Workshop for the staff at the local clinic.
His commitment to serving others extends well beyond his medical work. Sunday has served as President of the Wisdom Baptist Youth in Gbarnga for the past six years. Now, he is stepping into another leadership opportunity, running for President in the upcoming Jorquelleh District 2 Youth Election alongside a team of fellow young leaders.

In his election speech, Sunday shared these words:
“Leadership is about service, humility, respect, and creating opportunities for everyone. Therefore, let us learn to respect one another and use our positions to make a positive difference in our communities. Our district deserves leadership that listens, represents, and works for the people. I remain committed to this process because I strongly believe that our district needs meaningful representation for its young people.”
Sunday is mature, responsible, caring, and kind. He doesn’t simply talk about helping others; he takes the time to invest in their lives.
I remember when we once sent him into rural villages to search for the mother of a young refugee boy living in Ghana. Sunday took on the challenge, and he found her! That is just one example of his determination and the heart he has for people.
Investing in People Who Make a Difference
Sunday is a young man with a future, but more importantly, he is someone who understands that his future is about more than personal success. He knows the value of giving back, serving others, and using the opportunities he has been given to make life better for those around him.
At Provision of Hope, these are exactly the kinds of young people we want to invest in. We believe in supporting individuals who will not only rise above their circumstances but will also reach back and help others along the way.
Sunday Dunbar is a wonderful example of what can happen when opportunity meets determination, when generosity changes a life, and when a young person chooses to use his success to serve others.
