Celebrating Our Widows!
“The World Aging Day” was a day of celebrating the old folks of Liberia!
In Collaboration with the Ministry of Health & Social Welfare, Provision of Hope had set aside Oct. 7th to celebrate with our widows! It was a wonderful gathering! This year’s theme is ” Fulfilling the promises of the universal declaration of Human Rights for older persons” In Liberia there are no pension plans. Many elderly people really suffer from ailments not treated and even to find enough food to eat. This is a major concern.
Daniel Coleman led this joyful celebration at the local youth center community hall where they filled the place! There was so much excitement in the air as they came through the door! He had made moringa smoothies adding pineapple, garlic and ginger. They were so tasty! This was a first for our widows. Our Organic Agriculture Trainers, John Kucuyoiyoigee and Kelvin Taweh came out to teach them the benefits of taking Moringa as a daily supplement in their diets.
What a joy it is to serve our widows and see the smiles on their faces as they carry home their rice, oil and soup seasonings each time they gather. In Matadi they meet twice a month. In Harper, Maryland they meet once a month.
We also provided rain boots for so many of our widows who walk through wet areas to come for their rice. This is causing foot fungus. We hope to provide more widows with rain boots to prevent this fungus.
