Buduburam Refugee Camp is facing a huge crisis today! Already over 600 people have lost their homes! Many are sleeping outside!
Linda Jarbah who is Provision of Hope’s leader in this refugee camp is so heartbroken as she sees so many of their homes being demolished! She is completely devastated! How can this be? They have no place to go! They have no money to rent another place. Some did get a warning that this was about to happen, others were taken completely by surprise! Linda says their church, her business, Pastor Murphy’s home and so many more will be the next homes and buildings to go!! They are beside themselves! Many are crying out for food. “Who will help us?”
Buduburam has been a refugee camp for Liberians who fled from their home country during its bloody and terrible 14 yrs of civil wars. The last war ended in 2003. The camp was run by the UNHCR but after the last war ended the camp was technically closed and the Liberians staying there were advised to go back to Liberia. Many of them had nothing to go back to and no money to resettle so they stayed. The camp has continued to exist since then. I have walked through this refugee camp. Its NOT a place anyone should have to live. It’s like our slums in Liberia.
The Gomoa Fetteh Traditional Council are saying the reason for demolishing these homes in the Budumburam camp is to make way for the development of a market for traders who have been affected by the ongoing expansion works on the Kasoa-Winneba Highway. They say they need a place to sell. They are saying these refugees all need to go home. Yes, I agree, but to go home, they need funds.
Provision of Hope will help as many as we can to resettle back home. Over the years we have helped many go back to Liberia. We will help others to find a home outside the camp, until they too are ready to travel home. They can rent a small place for $ 360 or less per year. Click here to see some of the devastation! Mother Linda is so troubled to see the suffering of the people on the camp.
Linda has a big household to take care of. She is always taking in others who need a home. Linda is a courageous woman who helps so many people on the camp with the little she has. Her husband, Pastor Larry is in the US right now. He hopes to be united with his family before too long. Linda pastors the church along with Pastor Jellue and others. Please keep praying for Linda. She carries a huge responsibility. We have helped with many sick on this camp through Linda and others. Praise God for the ministry of Wordsower International for the help they are to both Linda and Pastor Jellue. They send money every month for the widows on this camp.
Victor and his family stand amid the ruins. They need a home. We can find rooms for $ 300 – $ 360 per year.
Ma Marie is with no home. Not too long ago her son died. So many are coming to Linda to see if we can help!
This is showing the open sewers on the camp. Next door they are cooking their food. No wonder the people get sick with typhoid and malaria! No-one should have to live in a refugee camp!
So many homes are being destroyed to make room for the Ghanaian marketers so they have a place off the highway.
Linda’s church, The Wordsower Bible church has people sleeping in it, until it will be demolished. It is on the list coming up. It is so devastating! I took note of their banner for 2024. Their theme is OUR YEAR TO RECOVER ALL. I Samuel 30: 1-31 In David’s great distress he found strength in the Lord his God! We pray for the people of Buduburam to find strength in God as David did. He did recover all that the Amalekites had taken! May this be your testimony!
Pastor Jellue and his family moved all their belonging out of their house. It is on the list to be demolished any day now. This is such a sad time for everyone!
