Back to School in Liberia!!

Our students are very excited to be going back to school! We have over 90 students registered to start their classes this week.

At Provision of Hope it’s been a very busy month for our staff.  They were collecting report cards, checking in on every one’s grades and going to each of the schools to register our students.   We have some very sharp students!  Some have even skipped a grade.  Every day after school we have tutoring classes which really help!

Students in Liberia all wear uniforms to school with black shoes.  We buy new book bags for each of them to carry their copy books and pens.  Every child knows it’s a golden opportunity to go to school in this country. There are still many who are not in school simply because they don’t have the funds. Every year the school fees keep going up, to make it almost impossible for families with such low incomes to be able to afford any education at all for their kids.

Provision of Hope believes that it should be the right for every child to get an Education. We believe that Education is vital in order to reduce poverty. We are especially grateful that we can educate girls. We have girls who we funded through university and today they have degrees in Nursing! They also have jobs!

Bendu is ready to start Grade 11. She's been getting her funding all these years from the Mitchell Elementary School. They do an annual Fundraiser for Education in Liberia! This year they raised close to 14,000 in Canadian Dollars!! What a remarkable school!!

We were introduced to Bendu when she was only 5yrs. It was the day her Grandma's house burned down. What a sad day! I'm glad they could come to us for help. We have grown close to Bendu ever since. She is part of our family. Every one of our children come from extreme conditions.
